Condolence Message - Prof. Firmino Mucavel

The Management Board, members and staff of WaterNet wish to express their profound shock and deep sorrow at the sudden passing away of Prof. Firmino Mucavele, and our deepest condolences to the Mucavele family.

Prof Mucavele was elected to the WaterNet Management Board in October 2015 during the 16th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWPSA Symposium in Blantyre Malawi. He was an Associate Professor at the University Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) where he worked since 1982. He was the Chairman of Research for Development and Director of the Center for International Economics and Governance of Water in Africa (IWEGA). Between 2008 and 2012, he was the Scientific Director of the Eduardo Mondlane University and the Office for Academic Reform and Regional Integration. Prof. Mucavele was the Chairman of the Economic Counsellor of the Republic of Mozambique from 2000 to 2006. In August 2005 – January 2008, he served as the Executive Director of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), the African Union organ. In 2000, he led the team of African Economists and the United Nations in preparing the program for the rapid transfer of technologies to developing countries that formed the basis for the 3rd Science and Technology Conference on the Least Developed Countries organized by the United Nations.
